Enough is enough!
Two weeks after Gov. Phil Murphy signed into law the Mandatory Sick Leave Act and said it has the “strongest earned leave protections in the country,” the Legislature is now considering an expansion of the State Family Leave Act which Senate President Steve Sweeney says will make it “the most generous legislation of its kind in the nation.”
These extremely generous programs will add considerably to the already heavy financial burden we are asking our business community to bear, while the state imposes some of the highest corporate, property and individual tax rates in the nation.
Meanwhile, New Jersey ranks at or near the top of most indicators measuring the cost of doing business while we rank at the bottom of most key indicators of financial health.
The Tax Foundation in its most recent study ranked New Jersey dead last in its report assessing each state’s business tax climate.
Our state Legislature has consistently talked about making our state more affordable and our business climate more competitive. This legislation would do just the opposite.
We need our state leaders to focus on improving New Jersey’s business climate so we can attract new businesses, help existing businesses expand, and generate quality job growth. That goal is mandatory if our state is going to survive economically.
